Extracurricular Activities at the University of Cologne
At the University of Cologne, there are numerous extracurricular offers which provide qualifications in various areas beyond your studies. We have put together a selection of great additional qualifications. Maybe there is something for you?
Supplementary Qualifications
"Gender Studies"-Certificate
Since the summer semester of 2013, students at the University of Cologne have been able to complete a "Gender Studies"-certificate. As an additional qualification, this is a supplement to the subject studies and certifies the acquisition of basic knowledge in the theories, concepts and methods of Gender and Queer Studies. The certificate is anchored in the Studium Integrale as well as in the Extracurricular Offers. The range of events includes a variety of interdisciplinary seminars and lectures. The certificate can be started at any time and without separate registration.

Training as a writing consultant
Since the summer semester 2014, students from all faculties can train to become peer advisors in the field of writing at the Writing Competence Centre of the Faculty of Humanities. The training concludes with a certificate and enables you to acquire career-relevant skills while still studying. This additional qualification opens up opportunities for you in a wide variety of professions, for example in publishing, teaching or advisory professions in general.
Some of the modules are installed in subject areas and can additionally be credited to your studies. The training as a whole can also be recognised as a professional field internship in the teaching degree programme.

IT-Certificate of the Faculty of Humanities
Theory meets practice - the IT-certificate of the Faculty of Humanities consists of four strongly practice-oriented courses. In these seminars, in addition to theoretical knowledge, particularly directly applicable skills can be acquired.
The four certificate courses are coordinated in terms of content and take up contemporary developments in the field of digital humanities. Within the framework of the IT-certificate, graduates are enabled to cover the IT-requirements of small and medium-sized institutions, which are typically looking for a combination of knowledge from the humanities and the IT-sector, and to support them in their ongoing operations.
In order to integrate new developments in the field of digital humanities into the events, both the range of events and their content are constantly being enhanced.
